Fruit of the Spirit|What is fruit|How do I get fruit?

Fruit of the Spirit
Much reference is made in the Bible concerning fruit and why fruit glorifies God (John 15:8), yet there is a mystery surrounding how fruit is formed within the soul of man. This mystery is concealed from the carnal-minded and revealed unto those seeking hearts through God’s living apostles. When apostles lay the foundation of truth in the heart, the believer is taught and instructed in how to be a fruit-bearer of the Lord through faith in covenant (see "simple faith series").

The seed holds the design

To understand how fruit is birthed within the soul of man one needs to take a look at the seed that man nurtures. One can see the symbolism thereof in nature:  Just as every seed holds the design of that which it can become or what it was created for, it can only grow into that potential through the correct nurturing thereof. The seed of an apple tree doesn’t produce a tree just by looking at the seed, it has to be planted, nurtured and endured with patience as it grows. Likewise the fruit of the Spirit is not born by reading about it in scriptures; it is birthed through a process of grace and suffering.

Every seed carries the reflection of the Kingdom of its origin, meaning that every seed carries within it the design, image and likeness from where it came. Therefore every seed of truth carries within it an exact replica of the Kingdom of Light; it mirrors it perfectly. It is when the product (fruit) sprouts forth from that seed of truth that it grows into the perfection of that reflection. Every seed of truth then carries the potential for godliness because man was fashioned in the image of God; fruit glorifies God. When God sees the reflection of Himself within the soul of man through His parentage He is glorified.

Understanding that Light and darkness are contrasts of each other, so too the design of the kingdom of darkness. This means that every seed of false knowledge (the lie) carries the same design and likeness of its design. Before man learns of the Light he only knows darkness and that is why man understands hatred, envy, jealousy, malice etc. These are the fruits that are birthed within us, not by choice, but by curse of the fall (Romans 5:12). This is what makes man identify with darkness instinctively because it comes naturally to us. This is why but for the grace of God we cannot comprehend the Light; His grace is the invitation to leave the system of darkness that we may sup with Him (2 Corinthians 6:17). If all we know is death, we cannot know Light unless it is revealed to us by the grace of God. The issuance of His grace is the opportunity for man to know God through fruit-bearing that we may stand in the Light of His testimony.

What does this mean?

This means that fruit allows us to know who God is. It is by what God births within us that we can say that we know God. Apart from abiding in the sanctified pattern of faith, man “knows” God on grounds of morality, on grounds of what he has read in the Bible to be said of God and uses his private interpretation of scripture to formulate a picture of who God is and to bring that into some sort of fruition through his imagination: this is not the pattern that God sanctified for faith. Fruit denotes an experience with God that has been wrought through suffering and perfected unto virtue through our participation (works of faith)(James 2:26).

Every fruit born of suffering according to the sanctified pattern of faith carries the temperament of God; the evidence of His parentage is clear. Those of covenant faith recognize each other by their confession of faith through charity. There is no suspicion, strife, jealousy or malice when the virtue of Christ adorns the soul. Every fruit of the Spirit that is born in a heart of faith teaches us who God is, strengthens the will and allows us to walk in a renewed perspective (renewing of the mind)(see "KOP series": Elements of the gospel series 1). Fruit glorifies God because through fruit He recognizes us by His Son. We know God and are known of Him.

When the Spirit empowers faith to make it living the off-spring is fruit, herein is both the Father and the Son glorified.

Fruit is the key that unlocks the door to the Promised Land. Fruit is that testimony that is either going to stand for you or against you; it is either going to allow you entrance back into the bosom of the Father or it is going to convict you of being born of another kingdom by which God will know you not (Matthew 7:22 – 23).

We value fruit because God values fruit; this is what the righteous die for. The righteous die so that the testimony of God may live within them forever. Fruit is the legacy of the Lord that is born through suffering and increased unto virtue by overcoming the many faces of death. Fruit is the evidence of the agreement to His testimony, born through grace and suffering. Fruit stands as a memorial of Christ, having made asunder the memorials the imagination built within the heart. Fruit carries a testimony of the stripes of suffering we bore wherein we say ‘Lord, I love you more’.
