Covenant, a word so widely used amongst Christians today. But could it be, that just as The Grace of God is so widely misunderstood, the same for the covenant of Jesus Christ?
The answer is yes.
Keeping covenant with God is more than just repenting for your “evil” deeds and making a promise to never do them again. Neither do we keep covenant with God by continually seeking forgiveness for every little thing that we can possibly perceive that He would disapprove of.
Unlike the covenant of Moses The covenant of Jesus Christ does not condemn man for his sins, but provides man with a system to overcome sin, making him therefore pure and blameless before God by providing him with a standard that can be met, the only standard that God will accept.
The covenant of Jesus Christ is a unique environment established by God for the rehabilitation of the soul.
From the day we were born into this system of iniquity our souls have been fed with the substance of false knowledge, and like most substance abusers, mankind has become dependent upon it for survival.
Just like the body, the soul is designed to increase. And just like the body needs nourishment in order for it to grow into the likeness of its full potential, so does the soul. This requires a steady diet of good nutrition and exercise in order for this potential to be obtained.
However, just as the body falls into a state of decay when denied the nutrients it was designed for, so too does the soul when denied the substance of Christ. This is the essence of the likeness of God.
What Does it Mean to Enter Into Covenant With God?
Entering into covenant with God we agree to the restrictions He sets upon us for healing. Much like a substance abuser who books themselves into a rehabilitation center has to be in agreement to what the doctors and nurses prescribe for the healing of the patient, so too do we consent to God’s terms and conditions for the regeneration of the soul and the renewing of the mind.
Like any health care facility, it has employees that have been trained in their field of expertise and after gaining experience with the knowledge are made competent to assist with a patient’s course of healing.
By entering into covenant with God, He takes ownership of our souls through the baptism of the Holy Spirit and with the oversight of His government; believers are assisted through the transition from darkness to light. Believers are taught to no longer rely on the substance of iniquity for their discernment by being taught the place value of God’s virtues birthed within the soul through His sanctified system of Grace and truth.
Once the foundation of truth has been laid within the heart of a believer (12 elements of the gospel), the spirit of God then begins to set the intricate courses (cycles of growth) designed for healing to be effected within each believers soul, to transform them from the fallen nature of sin to the divine nature of Christ.
As believers begin to grow in God’s Grace and remain diligent with the tools of the 2nd covenant, they will begin to notice a change in their appetite from that which birthed within them the fruits of sin to that which carries life to the soul, and thus giving tangible evidence to this new inner change.
This new inner change is the temperament of Jesus Christ.
(Gal 5:22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(Gal 5:23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
