Transform Your Walk With God

Apostle Matthew Botha - Second 8th Week Ministries

We serve a God of covenant

Did you know that the word covenant can be found in 272 verses in the Bible…? Yet, many Christians today do not know about the covenant of Christ or do not know that they are to keep covenant with God as the Israelites had to; others may say they walk in covenant with God, but do not understand the terms and conditions thereof.

This is due to a lack of knowledge, because the church has lacked the stewardship of living apostles for the past two thousand years.

In the current Christian culture, the word covenant may be unfamiliar when talking about having faith in God, but throughout the Bible we can see that God is a God of covenant, and by it He separates a people unto Himself.

Exodus 2:24 “And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

Exodus 19:5 “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people…”

Exodus 34:27 “And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.”

Hebrews 8:6 “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”

What does it mean to keep covenant with God? It means: to be in agreement with Him, according to His terms and conditions. We walk in agreement with Him on the condition that we adhere to the terms of engagement.

Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Through the shedding of His blood Jesus established the new and better covenant to that of Moses.
Walking and engaging refer to an activity. As there were works that had to be performed by the priests of the first covenant (that of Moses - physical), so too we are to exercise our faith in God by doing the works of the second covenant (covenant of Christ - spiritual) being New Testament priests.

Apostle James said that faith without works is dead (James 2:17). The works that he was referring to was the sanctified works of the New Testament. In the doing of these works we are serving God on His terms, thereby walking in agreement with Him.

Covenant faith is faith that is living; faith that is living is faith that is empowered by the Spirit of God. When we exercise faith on the terms that God set in Jesus Christ, we do so by molding with the record of Christ (His holy knowledge & spiritual tools). It is this record that the Spirit of God gives witness to, making living our faith in God.

The holy knowledge of Christ is the doctrine of the apostles. The spiritual tools of Jesus Christ are Government, Truth & Spirit; Prayer, Preaching & Prophecy; the Gifts, the Callings & the manifold graces of God.

Through the spiritual covenant of Jesus Christ God is separating a people unto Himself to express Himself in them to reflect Him, to serve Him as priests in the spiritual priesthood and to know Him through the work of regeneration and fruit bearing. The people of God are His portion as He is theirs.

His mercy is towards them, who keep within the boundaries of the agreement and His promises are always by means of a covenant and obtained through faith. The promises in Jesus Christ are of new life and life eternal.
