Definition of hybrid
1: An offspring of two animals or plants of different races, breeds, varieties, species, or genera
2: A person whose background is a blend of two diverse cultures or traditions
Jesus warned His apostles about hybrid faith; he warned them about the effects of mixing the traditions of one’s own culture with faith.
(Matthew 16:6) Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
(Matthew 16:12) Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
(Galatians 5:9) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Jesus was pointing out the ripple effect that even a little false knowledge has on faith. We can see this in the example of how just 1 degree off course, a ship can miss its point of destination by a very long distance.
In the following scripture we read what God’s perspective is on hybrid faith.
(Rev 2:15) So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
The doctrine of the Nicolaitans was a mixture of the 1st covenant commandments and the new covenant commandments.
We see the same crisis today with the faith of many Christians; faith has somehow morphed itself to suit the needs of the individual rather than pleasing God according to His established pattern.
Do You Struggle In Your Walk With God?
The struggle for most Christians is that they have been led to believe by false indoctrination that the expression of their faith is of a personal nature, this brings faith down to the level of human emotion instead of faith meeting the requirements of God’s virtue.
Christians struggle because emotional fulfillment has become the substitute to the inspiration of Grace.
Just like the first century church struggled with the transition of faith no longer being that of carnal ordinances (things they could touch, taste or handle), the church today faces the same challenge, to let go of the former traditions that are in error and to embrace the tokens of the 2nd covenant.
Hybrid faithis the result of believers struggling to let go entirely of what they valued. Many believers become ensnared by mixing a little bit of the old with the new and expecting God to accept it.
Another example of hybrid faith is when a believer, being absent of stewardship extrapolates verses from the bible to suit their present needs. They mistakenly believe that as long as it comes from the bible then God will accept this as choosing faith. This is what Isaiah meant when he said…
(Isaiah 28:13) But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
God instructs us to keep His commandments. God values our obedience and calls this faith. God accepts only the expression of His Christ and is pleased when He sees Christ reflected in our faith. God requires equal reciprocation on our part and God expressed His Love for us by giving us His only Begotten Son.
We cannot mix ourselves with the expression of Christ, just like we cannot mix the flesh with the Spirit.
For The flesh + the spirit = Hybrid faith.
(John 7:16) Jesus answered them, and said, my doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me.
(John 7:17) If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
