End times concern: on being known of Christ
Knowing of Christ vs being known of Him
"What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice." (Philippians 1:18)
When first Christ was being preached, there was a lack of familiarity with what had taken place as concerning His birth, life, death, and resurrection. Apostle Paul was drawing from this perspective when writing this but the apostles were not unaware that the tables would turn to the point where we are at today which is a two-fold time of darkness:
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
In the presence of spiritual government through apostles first who feed the church of God with grace and truth which is pure and undefiled by the principle and aspiration of man, the church remains anchored to Christ through His government, truth, and Spirit. In the absence of living apostles, people turn the knowledge of Christ to focus upon the care of the flesh (social, economic, health) instead of being focused upon faith in Christ. This turning is not directed by God, does not follow after the Spirit of God, and restores the barrier to Christ through darkened reasoning.
This is where we find the church today. Nothing surprising to the first apostles who warned of this coming time of darkness which we are now at the end of. This was also not a surprise to Christ Jesus who also warned of this coming time of darkness and confusion:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
He was speaking of the multitude of unconverted believers which profess Christ with their lips but deny Him with their faith which is not sanctified by Him nor joined to Him through His Spirit. They do not do this intentionally and are not aware of their error. They are under a great deception orchestrated by the father of lies who offered a huge array of alternatives to the gospel of Christ in truth which all continued to confirm the fundamental facts concerning His birth, life, death, and resurrection but do not conform to the record He set for faith to find expression through the Spirit of God through the priesthood of Christ.
How is this possible? Is not your sincere desire to please God evidence enough of your faith being acceptable to Him? Is not your sincere desire to please God with your talents and gifted abilities acceptable to Him? Would not the working of miracles testify of the quality of your faith?
Let’s take a look at Judas Iscariot as an example. Judas certainly walked with Jesus physically during His earthly ministry but he was not walking with Christ by faith. Judas was working instead with an aspiration and saw Jesus in the light of this aspiration, not in the light of grace. While Jesus spoke of being put to death by man (Luke 9:44), Judas was looking for Him to raise up and defeat the power of the Romans who were occupying Jerusalem.
Judas was among the 12 sent forth by Jesus with power over all devils and to cure diseases. (Luke 9:1-6)
1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
So the Father confirmed Christ (not Judas) through the working of miracles even though Judas was not walking by faith. Judas was under the impression that he was doing the will of God (as were the religious leaders who had Him arrested.) While Jesus was making the plan of God known to His apostles (Luke 9:44), Judas was not reflecting upon this knowledge but instead projecting a favorable outcome which he imagined would bring peace and security to the Jews.
Luke 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
Therefore let us concern ourselves at this time with being known of Christ and not just knowing of Him for even the demons confessed Jesus is Lord while walking contrary to Him. (Mark 5:7, Luke 8:28)
So how do we go from simply knowing of Christ to being known of Him? We know that the fundamental facts concerning Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection have now become common knowledge. There are huge numbers of people who identify themselves as being Christians. There are few who have never heard of Jesus but so are there few who are walking with God through sanctified faith in Christ. We want to be counted among those who are known of Him even as we are known of Him.
1 Corinthians 13:11-13
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
We go from knowing of Christ to being known of Him by being joined to Him through the sanctified contact points of His covenant. "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)
God has provided for our service of faith through the New Covenant priesthood of Christ which is spiritual:
1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Learning to function within the spiritual priesthood of Christ begins right after receiving the baptism with tongues as the prayer language is the first and primary tool of the New Covenant priesthood.
1 Peter 1:2
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Elect speaks of a selection. The selection is by faith. By faith we choose God as the governor of our destiny and without faith we are choosing to simply live by instinct and passion as the brute beasts of the fields until the day of our deaths. We choose faith as we continue submitting our will in humbled obedience to the voice of God which speaks to us of Christ who is the purpose and the plan of God.
Foreknowledge of God: The record He set for our redemption through faith in Christ. Deliverance follows obedience. This is the pattern you see play out over and over again in the scriptures. Obedience requires knowledge. When the new believers asked "How now shall we live", they asked the apostles of Christ who instructed them in the terms and conditions of the New Covenant of Christ Jesus our Lord. They knew the way of Abraham and Moses but now needed to be instructed in the law of the Spirit which governs our faith in Christ.
Through sanctification: Beginning with the SEAL. This is the first point of our separation to God from darkness to light. We cannot be joined to the Kingdom of Light apart from this engrafting of His power and He bears witness to this engrafting with the manifestation of tongues. All the contact points of the New Covenant are through the Spirit. This is why we must begin here. Without the tools of the Spirit the knowledge of Christ would be of none effect because we would not be able to make application with the knowledge.
Unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Instruction in truth and labor of faith with the tools of the Spirit. All of the tools of the Spirit have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ. His Life is in them and through them we are joining our faith to Him to partake of Him. This will be clarified as you study the elements of the gospel beginning with grace.
Grace and peace be multiplied: This takes place in the assembly where the saints join together in partaking of the sharing of truth and then have fellowship with that same knowledge together. Everybody in the assembly comes with their hearts full of faith, ready to strengthen the brethren. (Luke 22:32)
This spiritual priesthood begins with our separation and cleansing through our study of sound doctrine with the oversight and assistance of living apostles of Christ.
The Lord has separated and prepared me with the anointing of Truth that I may assist others in coming into a full understanding of the purpose and plan of God in Christ. While this knowledge remains a mystery to the carnal minded who prefer a never ending journey in search of truth over abiding in Truth, Christ reveals Himself in His fullness to all those who call upon His name in Truth through the spiritual priesthood of Christ. (2 Tim 3:7)
As I went through this necessary transition upon first coming into covenant with God through Christ over 9 years ago, I am able to assist you in receiving the foundation of truth in your heart through your study of the Apostle's Doctrine which is the Doctrine of Christ as taught by the apostles of the first century. (Acts 2:42, 1 Tim 6:3, Heb 6:1, 2 John 1:9)
This foundation knowledge makes up the whole stones of the Altar of Christ which must be built by each believer within their hearts as they learn to function in the spiritual priesthood of Christ Jesus. It is through this spiritual priesthood that we experience the fullness of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to assist us in our overcoming of ourselves, the world, and the Devil. (Rev 1:6, 3:5)
Through your study of the Foundation Series of the Apostle's Doctrine, we will unfold the mystery of Christ as concerning the plan of God to redeem our hearts from darkness to His Light and the operation of God within the hearts of all those who shoulder the yoke of the knowledge of Christ to serve Him with perfect faith.
The doctrine of Christ covers the 12 elements of the gospel of Christ which are grace, faith, righteousness, justification, sanctification, holiness, truth, charity, peace, rest, regeneration, and renewing of the mind. The doctrine of Christ also makes known and directs our use of the tools of the New Covenant priesthood which are all spiritual. These are: Government, Truth, Spirit; gifts (9 gifts of the Spirit), callings (5 offices of God's spiritual government), manifold graces; prayer (especially in tongues), preaching (study or teaching of wholesome doctrine), prophecy (confirmation of sound doctrine.)
The Apostle's Doctrine removes ambiguity and confusion concerning Christ who does not conceal Himself from the righteous but reveals Himself in His fullness to all those who believe on Him through the word of His called and chosen stewards of His knowledge. (John 17:20)
Before we begin, I'll need to know if you have yet received the baptism of the Spirit and received the evidence of tongues (Acts 2:4, 10:46-47, Acts 19:6) This is only to determine which lesson we begin with and so that I can help you with a clear understanding of the purpose and value of this first point of sanctification.
Please let me know if you would like assistance in experiencing the reality of Christ working redemption within your soul through the power of His Spirit.
For your edification and enlightenment: "For the Spirit of the Lord magnifies Christ to us as we submit ourselves to His care."
Walking with God,
John Welty, Apostle of Christ
