The better covenant of Jesus Christ

The better covenant of Jesus Christ

Better Covenant, why is it better?

Throughout history God made many covenants with man, but the two covenants He focuses on are two of the main covenants to teach us about the salvation of mankind. These two covenants are the 1st covenant of Moses and the 2nd Covenant of Jesus Christ which is the better covenant.

"Hebrews 5:6 But now He hath obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which is established upon better promises."

Why do we say that the 2nd Covenant is a better covenant? There are several reasons.

First of all the 1st covenant had to do with physical tokens and carnal ordinances. This contradicts the commandment of Jesus where He said:

"John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him."

That is why God gave us spiritual tokens to use in the 2nd covenant. God is a spirit, how can we then touch Him with a carnal thing?

The 1st covenant only provided freedom from the penalty of sin (which was Adam’s great transgression which passed onto all Adamites) but does not offer freedom from the power of sin (which is the fruits of iniquity in the heart.)

The better covenant provides freedom from both the penalty and power of sin. It is within the 2nd covenant that we walk free from sin and in the power and liberty of Christ.

Why did God then give the 1st covenant?

The better covenant is provided by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Everything of the 1st covenant was a type and shadow of Jesus Christ which would come to establish His new and better covenant that all those who walk with Him might live in His fullness.

"Hebrews 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will of God. He taketh away the first that He may establish the second. (Jesus came to establish the 2nd (better) covenant)"

The sacrifices of the first covenant was a type and shadow of the spiritual sacrifices we will offer to God in the 2nd covenant. In this covenant we offer to God spiritual sacrifices of knowledge and no longer physical sacrifices of animals.

Jesus sprinkled His blood upon the second covenant tools to sanctify it for our use.

The priesthood of the covenant of Moses was a type and shadow of the priesthood of Jesus Christ. In this priesthood we do not clothe ourselves in physical vestments but we put on Christ Himself as we labour with His holy tools.

We do not keep a physical Sabbath (a day of the week) but we observe Jesus Christ every day for He is the Sabbath man.

One thing about the covenant of Moses is that the people did not experience the purged conscience. That is why Jesus had to go down into the caverns of hell, not to go and suffer, but to go and fetch all those who were waiting in the cavern called Abraham’s bosom.

They only had a purged conscience when Christ came. In the better covenant we daily experience regeneration and renewing of the mind and Christ cleanses our conscience to reflect His face.

This is the thing about salvation. God does not look at the state of the soul, for He knows it is damaged. As long as regeneration continues God only looks at the conscience. It is essential for the conscience to reflect Christ otherwise we offend God.

God designed us for Himself and for us to reflect Him.

The divine service of the better covenant is very liberating and does not require the sweat of physical labour. We now have a spiritual altar where we offer spiritual gifts.

This labour is liberating because as we use the tools of the covenant, we enter into the presence of God (spiritually) and please Him with a perfect faith.

We are here to assist anyone in the faith of Jesus Christ and who wishes to experience the better covenant faith!!!

May the grace of God touch your soul as you seek His face.
