The Significance of the Third Temple
By Apostle Eric vonAnderseck
In that we are living in the end times, and breaking news in Israel points to the launch of the long anticipated Jew’s temple, Christians need to know the implications. What does God expect from us? To determine that we’ll start with a study of the temple of God.
FIRST TEMPLE:  The first temple was built by Solomon. His father, king David, provided the blueprint (pattern) and building material to prepare all things according to the mind of God. Here we see that God gives the pattern to the steward for building. (1 Kg 6:2)
Pattern given to Moses (steward) for the tabernacle of skins: “According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.” (Ex 25:9)
Pattern given to David (steward) for the temple of stones: “And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the Lord, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things.”(1 Chron 28:12)
The first temple was destroyed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar some 400 years later.
SECOND TEMPLE:  God’s plan was for the second temple to be built to provide a place of worship, tools of worship, to keep the covenant of faith alive in the hearts of the people until Christ should come to transition the covenant to Himself. The temple would then transition from stone to the tabernacle of His flesh.
God stirred up the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to build the second temple.
2 Chron 36:22-23
22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord spoken by
the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the Lord stirred up the spirit of
Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and
put it also in writing, saying,
23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord God
of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem,
which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be
with him, and let him go up.
The people were charged to come and help with the rebuilding, to be a part of God’s plan. The prophet Jeremiah confirmed this direction.
After 2 years persecution arose against the rebuilding of the temple by the Jew’s enemies, and the building did not resume until the second year of King Darius. The prophets Haggai and Zechariah assisted the work. (Ezra 5:1-2)
The second temple was destroyed by the Roman army under Tiberius in AD 70.
THIRD TEMPLE:  Breaking news reported by the Jerusalem Post and many other media, speculating Trump as the modern-day Cyrus as he responds to requests that the third temple be built in Jerusalem. While many insist that this third temple is the millennial temple of Christ, it is in fact the tribulation temple of the beast, which is the strong delusion. Let’s read those scriptures and discuss these points later.
2 Thes.2:4
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2 Thes. 2:5-12
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will
let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the
spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (Rev
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and
signs and lying wonders (Rev 13:12-14).
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should
   believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure
   in unrighteousness.
Mark 13:14
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains. (Rev 12:12)
Daniel 11:31
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
FOURTH TEMPLE:  Ezekiel prophesies of a new temple that is to be built according to the unit of measure of an angel. This is the true millennial temple of Jesus Christ, and therefore, in truth, rightfully called the third temple. This temple will be built by angels upon the earth after the polluted temple (the tribulation temple) is removed and the earth is restored. This follows the second coming of Christ, whereas He comes back to earth with his saints to do battle against the devil and his army who have gathered together in the valley of Armageddon.
3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man [angel], whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's [angel] hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
Chronology of Events:
  1. The rapture of the church. The Lord receives all those who have made themselves ready and purified themselves in this season of restoration to the new covenant. (Rev 7:9)
  2. The battle of Armageddon marks the end of the Tribulation and also the second coming of Christ, whereas Jesus come back to earth on a white horse followed by the raptured saints and angels to establish his kingdom on earth and His thousand year reign. (Rev 16:15-16; 19:11-21)
  3. Satan is bound for a thousand years. (Rev 20:1-3)
  4. Millennial reign of Christ upon the earth begins. (Rev 20:4-6)
  5. Fourth temple constructed by angels. This temple is measured in heavenly units (Ez 40-48), as opposed to the third temple, which follows the pattern of the first temple, which was measured by the unit of man (1 Kg 6:2)
  6. Satan loosed for a short season (about 100 years) to test hearts again.(Rev 20:7)
  7. Satan leads battle against God: “And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.” (Rev 20:8)
  8. Satan defeated by fire. “fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them” (Rev 20:9)
  9. Satan cast into the lake of fire.“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Rev 20:10)
  10. Great White Throne Judgment. The righteous receive their rewards, and the wicked protestors of God’s plan are cast into the lake of fire, for they chose to follow the knowledge and philosophy of the devil and now share in his rewards. (Rev 20:11)
How Will You Defend the Plan of God as the Building of the Third Temple Takes Place?
What do Christians need to do to defend the plan of God today? Because most believers are not able to discern the plan of God according to His covenant, and missed the restoration of the church, they are vulnerable to follow the wrong plan. In all likelihood believers will get behind God’s plan to build the tribulation temple. What is confusing for them is that God has two plans running at the same time, and these plans are not the same.
Looking back at Noah and Lot, the plan of God was different for the steward (and those under his care) than for the world.
THE PLAN OF GOD FOR NOAH: God instructed Noah to build an ark to the saving of his house.
THE PLAN OF GOD FOR THE WORLD: God placed a judgment of wrath upon those who protested faith by covenant and followed their own hearts to make their own truths. They were destroyed in the flood.
THE PLAN OF GOD FOR LOT: God sent his angels to Lot to deliver him from his hand of judgment.
THE PLAN OF GOD FOR SODOM AND GHOMORRAH: God placed a judgment of wrath upon those who protested faith by covenant and followed their own hearts to make their own truths. They were destroyed when God rained fire and brimstone from heaven.
What is the next and soon coming consummation? Although God promised to never again destroy the earth by flood, He will soon consume the earth by the plagues listed in the book of Revelation. God has a plan to rapture his covenant saints, and God has a plan to send his plagues of wrath upon the world (Tribulation).
Now that we have that background information, let’s launch into a few discussions. We’ll discuss the merits of the building of the third temple from God’s perspective and plan. Who are the key players, their agendas, potential solutions, and their implications?
1.       What is the Jew’ purpose for the third temple, and how is that in conflict with the sanctified plan of God?

ANS. The Jew’s purpose for the temple is to receive their messiah (antichrist), which is in conflict with the plan of God according to Jesus Christ, who is the transition of the covenant and temple to Himself. It is believed that the third temple is a sign of the millennial reign of Christ on earth, and therefore the second coming of Christ is anticipated out of season.
2.      How would believers you know respond to a charge to help (prayer, donations, visits, support, etc.) build the third temple in Jerusalem? Would they see themselves as being a part of the fulfillment of God’s plan, and if so, knowing what part the third temple plays in God’s plan would tell them what part they would play.
ANS. Most believes will associate the building of the third temple with events that transpired in the Bible and would want to be a part of the making of this history. The problem is, God is not repeating biblical history. He is not establishing David on his throne, He is not defeating Goliath, He is not bringing the children of Israel through the Red Sea. He is restoring the church to the new covenant to prepare the Bride of Christ to be raptured, and He is preparing the world to receive the Beast as their messiah.
3.      Which temple belongs to the first covenant, and which temple belongs to the second covenant? How would a neglect to differentiate the covenants result in confusion about the third temple?
ANS. Moses’ tabernacle of skins and Solomon’s temple of stones both belong to the first covenant. Jesus is the temple of the new and current covenant. His temple is a temple of skins (Himself), and He (His grace and truth) is the light of it shining in our hearts. This tells us that God is not going backwards to again build a temple in Jerusalem to establish our faith in another (former) pattern. God’s plan to build the temple in Jerusalem is not for our faith.
4.      Evaluate the reason for the building of the third temple to be at the crux of the strong delusion coming upon the world.
ANS. The third temple is authorized by God, but not sanctified. The false temple will present itself as the real temple to preempt the plan of God. Just as when Jesus was born and came into his ministry, many false Christ’s arose, even so today, as the rise of the third temple is supposed to coincide with the second coming of Christ. But it does not herald His coming again to earth, but rather the rapture of the church to Himself.
The strong delusion is for those who sought for open signs to confirm their faith in God. God is giving them the sign they desired in giving them this lie.
We can understand why the building of the third temple holds so much promise and attraction to Christians today. The lure for them is that the Bible seems to be coming alive. The Second 8th Week is the time and season of the restoration of truth for the purification of the church to  restore the tangible signs and evidences of Christ upon our faith. Believers who are a part of that transition daily experience Christ as God gives substance to their hope.
If a believer has not been a part of God’s plan, they are constantly trying to construct something outward that they can latch onto to experience God. So, the building of the third temple works to provide false validation to their faith.
5.   When did the pattern for the temple change from stones to the tabernacle of skins again? And how does this change effect how we view the temple today?

ANS: As discussed above, the pattern of the temple changed back to the tabernacle of skins when Jesus came to become the new temple for our worship to be accepted of God.  (Jn 4:24)
  • Moses = tabernacle of the wilderness = skins
  • Solomon = temple of stones
  • Jesus = tabernacle of His body (skin). He is the temple of our faith. All the articles of the covenant are contained in Him.
