Definition of Apostle
by Apostle Eric vonAnderseck
As God awakens the church to the need of apostles today, ministers struggle to define what an apostle is and what an apostle is supposed to do. What is God’s plan for apostles today?
As God sent His anointed apostles into the church, the devil also sent his counterfeits. These ministers share their personal convictions (visions, thoughts, feelings, and ideas) as if it is God’s revelation.
The Counterfeit & Satan's Trio
Ministers have powerful convictions about what they expect an apostle to do – what they think an apostle should be like and misinterpret the strength of their convictions as God’s empowerment upon their beliefs.
What they don’t know is that the devil’s trio (Aspiration, Principle & Imagination) is behind their convictions. These ungodly powers work as a support system to one’s logic to mirror faith in the likeness of self. The trio works with a conviction to inspire it and give voice to it.
This is where personal revelation comes in. Believers are driven to desperate measures to ensure that they are not relying on their own understanding and intellect. A personal revelation is thought to give assurance that “this didn’t come from me, it came from the revealer, Jesus Christ, so I can take confidence in walking this out, and he will bring forth the fulness of it.”
When in covenant with God, grace IS given daily as a token of Christ to assist your walk in Him. You DO hear the voice of God daily – for yourself – but not in the absence of the foundation of truth. In the absence of truth, personal revelations are sought to fill the void. You want to hear from the Lord for yourself what an apostle is, what ministry is, what grace is, what faith is, what tongues is, and so forth.
Jesus had not meant for His Body to receive truth individually from Him, but to receive the instruction of doctrine, to accept the apostolic stewardship as the way He is protecting you from yourself.
Your understanding is built upon the stones of His knowledge, which the Holy Spirit breathes into (the anointing) to confirm Christ. The revelation you’re seeking is the daily issuance of grace that you would receive from the throne of God for your own stewardship and increase in the fruits of Christ when in covenant with God.
Not discerning the devil’s trio and how these powers work upon the soul, will leave you vulnerable to the devil’s powerful influence.
These are important markers in your ability to discern the true apostolic from the false apostolic. To unite believers into one house (covenant) and faith (doctrine of Christ) God sent apostles to re-establish the foundation of truth. Jesus sent apostles into the church again to re-built the foundation of truth in your heart.
We’ll get into what that means and provide clear cut definitions of an apostle from God’s perspective and talk about when the second apostolic age began. But first we need to address the disinformation sown by the devil about apostles. What can a further examination of the counterfeit show? Let’s look at 3 markers of the false apostolic that show up:
1. Independent ministry
2. False unity
3. Rivalry
While God is using the true apostolic ministry to call all ministers and believers out of their wilderness tents and into one house – one doctrine of Christ – one truth, to serve God according to the terms of the new covenant, false apostolic ministries deny this transition into the new covenant, choosing rather to continue to exercise what they believe to be their right to remain independent.
God’s call to build one house reveal choices made. While claiming the voice of God is leading them independently (in different directions, planting diverse, dysfunctional, and disagreeable doctrinal systems), ministers are actually following Satan’s trio (Aspiration, Principle, and Imagination), which is the spirit of this world.
Choosing to govern their own faith independent of the Godhead is another way of saying, “I’m choosing to serve God my own way”, which of course is a ruinous course of action as it brings a believer into direct conflict with God and with one another.
God addressed this destructive habit many times, using the children of Israel as a negative role model. When seeking to worship God their own way, they too stepped out with Satan’s trio, which meant abandoning the terms of the covenant. God had established the grounds to approach unto Him and established the manner of service. Faith was a word God used to describe obedience to His established record.
Every time the children of Israel stepped out with Satan’s trio, they broke God’s covenant. They sought to make their own independent covenants with God, thus approaching God on their own terms, while ignoring the terms He set for them through His steward, Moses.
The children of Israel claimed the victories of Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Samson & David while walking contrary to God’s stewardship and covenant. They went up the mountain of aspiration and came down the mountain in defeat.
A good example of this presumptuous faith (which reproaches the Lord) is found in Numbers chapter 40 verses 40-45. The children of Israel thought that victory was the prize, when in fact, the covenant is the prize. After venting their reasons for despising Moses and refusing the instruction of the covenant, they decided to pour all their efforts into gaining victory in battle and was soundly defeated, for God was not with them in their independence.
Independence Means to Believe the Open Sign
Independent ministers are as the children of Israel in the wilderness. They believe the open sign, but refuse the instruction of the steward God selected to bring the church into one house.
Exodus 4:30-31
30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31  And the people BELIEVED: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
When it comes to the open sign, it’s easy to say that you believe that God performed this or that miracle and that He can do anything. But when God places His sign into His steward and into the covenant where believers need instruction to be directed in faith, people find it NOT so easy to believe. Everyone wants to do it their own way (claim the right to establish independent faiths).
A good example of this is seen when after Moses (God’s steward) instructed the people how to build the tabernacle, altar, and all the articles for service to the Lord (Numbers 7:1), Aarons two sons, Nadab and Abihu, decided to offer incense their own way (contrary to God’s instructions through Moses).
It’s easy to believe in God through the open sign. It’s easy to envision yourself as one that followed Moses on dry ground through the Red Sea – it’s easy to envision yourself as one that shouted the victory over Pharaoh’s army of chariots and soldiers who washed up dead upon the banks after God closed the sea upon them; but the mark of true faith is obedience to the covenant terms, commandments, and tools.
Nadab and Abihu wanted to strike out on their own, to show God how much they loved Him by offering incense mixed their own way. They envisioned (the devil’s trio at work) God’s excitement to receive these efforts at their hand. It felt good (the devil’s trio bearing witness) to explore the variety of incense on their own and to make their own selections. There must have been a good background story or two they shared between themselves about why their selection was going to be so different – so needed – so liked – so accepted.
Contrary to their imagination, God did not set His name upon their doings. The priesthood of the flesh was not sanctified. He set His name upon the steward Moses and the record of the first covenant, the pattern He showed Moses in the Mount.
Nadab and Abihu’s independent way of serving God was not well received as “fire from the Lord devoured them, and they died before the Lord”. (Leviticus 10:1-2).
In the wilderness church, every campfire is as a false altar. Christ is not seen in the altar or the sacrifice. Thus we see that the priesthood of the flesh is the testimony of Satan and brings death.
To Change the Ordinances of the Covenant is to Break God’s Covenant
God designed Christ as your sanctified contact with Him and put His name upon the stewards (apostles) of the new (second) covenant. That means that your approach to God is not born of self, supported by the devil’s trio, but in obedience to the new covenant terms, commandments, tools, and priesthood God sprinkled with the blood of Jesus.
Psalm 25:14, “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them HIS covenant.” We cannot approach God in our own person – our own way. That is to change the ordinances of the covenant. That is the height of hubris.
Let’s look at Isaiah 24:5 “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”
Ministers who claim the apostolic often involve themselves with the politics of America and the world, claiming that God is not done with America yet. In reality, the nations of the world and the earth itself is suffering because ministers have changed the ordinances of God’s covenant of Jesus Christ – they broke the everlasting covenant and thus have forsaken God.
They believe the open sign (that God can do miracles), but refuse the sign of Christ in His covenant. God is cleansing the church of this bad habit (rebellion) and calling believers out of their wilderness tents. God confirms the same through Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 44:5-9
5 And the Lord said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
6 And thou shalt say to the rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of all your abominations,
7 In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant because of all your abominations.
8 And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves.
9 Thus saith the Lord God; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
There’s a high price to pay for endorsing the devil’s trio (3-fold cord of deception). Believers remain outside the restrictions of the covenant and are not brought into God’s care. Still defiled by the blood of aspiration, believers continue to be ruled by their principles and have no protection against the idols of their imagination.
The unity of the faith, as God designed it, is not desired in false apostolic ministry. They don’t believe in or desire God to bring the church into the unity of the faith, where God is honored by each member embracing the one true record of Jesus Christ.
Bringing attention earlier to the devil’s trio: aspiration, principle, and imagination was an important marker in your discernment. This trio of powers is the foundation for false (feigned) unity.
Let’s pull that thread of discernment all the way through. As each minister gives h/himself the right to draw upon these powers that work upon the flesh, voice is given to this demonic influence. You’ll hear ministers say “I feel – I sense”. They’re speaking in the voice of the aspiration, principle, and imagination. They’re giving voice to these powers.
Under this influence, grace and faith are being defined as freedom to do as one pleases. Do what you sense you hear God saying and He will be with you. Secret deals and handshakes behind the curtains of ministry are made in hopes of supporting the right to independent ministry. As each accepts the voice of Satan’s trio as the voice of God, they give each other the same rights and privileges. The basic contract reads, “You don’t criticize me for my ministry choices, revelations, visions, etc, and I won’t pass judgment on you.”
There are certain accountability standards and measures that are erected for the show of morality and (false) humility. Something like honor among thieves. People understand that there must be a show of integrity, justice, sincerity.
This fair exchange – aspiration for aspiration, principle for principle, imagination for imagination (reciprocation in kind) is necessary for ministers and believers who are still trying to survive in the wilderness tents, but such childish practices are done away in Christ.
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1 Corinthians 13:11)
Like people, like priest (Hosea 4:9). The Spirit of God brings out that when the priests forsook the Lord and no longer walked according to the terms of the covenant, but sought to serve God their own way—the people followed their example.
This somehow comes as a surprise to ministers. They taught the people how to prophecy into each other’s lives, to open themselves up to the devil’s voice through his trio, how to claim their victory in the open sign, and how to judge by the sight of their own eye and are surprised when the people fight and devour one another.
The Record of the Flesh is the Cause of all Rivalry
There are certain words that God gives to describe the blessing of Jesus Christ, the blessing of being in covenant with Him: equity, peace, rest, charity, hope. False apostolic ministries claim these virtues of Christ, but place them in their own record.
The record of the flesh is behind all rivalry. The record of man is his own soul. The record of man contains the 5 facets of the flesh that he is awakened to daily and accepts as reality. They are his senses by which he discerns and judges. The flesh (as defined by God) is made up of these 5 things:
1. The knowledge of this world
2. The signature of the soul
3. The God-Code
4. The moral code
5. The fruits of iniquity
From this reality, the soul builds for itself (aspiration) and thus manifests the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life as Apostle John instructed, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:16)
Can you see why God calls the record of man a lie? “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, an murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a LIE.” (Revelation 22:15)
The record of Jesus Christ is the true reality of the soul. The record of man rivals the record of Jesus Christ. What happens when working faith from the record of your own soul (the lie)? By the time you pick up on the ill effects the record of man (the lie) has upon the soul, you’re speaking of these things:
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings.  (Gal. 5:19-21)
If you rival God to preserve your own record in the denial of the record of Jesus Christ, you won’t pick up on the early warning signs until you see the damaging fruits of these choices. Sadly, everywhere you turn, you see rivalry in the wilderness camps.
I’m going to quote from Jennifer LeClaire, senior editor of Charisma magazine as she points out her wilderness experience. She recently wrote, “From coast to coast, I see Christian leaders spreading false rumors about the brethren, jockeying for prime position, prophesying witchcraft against people that anger them, and exalting their camp above another.”
Paul would say, This witness is true. In one way, this is a blessing, for as God continues to point out to them that there is war in the camp it is another opportunity for them to stop and consider God’s will and plan for the church. But as the finger is always pointed towards someone else causing rivalry, one does not see that one’s own independence makes them a partaker of the same spirit of division.
Division and rivalry do not take place in the house of God. This is because God established faith in one pattern – one record of Jesus Christ. His gifts of grace are bestowed freely upon each believer whether they are functioning in their calling or not.
None are using the devil’s trio, but choosing rather to allow God to govern them by His law of grace and truth. As each believer stewards the grace of God, the Spirit fitly frames Christ to their experience – this is the true anointing.
This is the daily experience of those who come out of the wilderness to accept the instruction of doctrine by the apostles to be cleansed and brought into the house of God.
Clear Cut Definitions for Apostle
Clear-cut definitions for apostle are presented in this article from nearly 40 years of experience with the calling, building one house of God.
There’s a lot of disinformation that is being shared about God’s plan for apostolic stewardship of the church. When God began a new apostolic age the devil meant to intentionally sow into the church his own brand of apostles as a deceptive strategy to keep the church following the current trend of independent ministry.
Disambiguation helps the reader clarify the differences between true apostles and false apostles. I’ll show you why definitions coming through ministers such as C. Peter Wagner and Bill Hamon lack depth and meaning and should be rejected outright.
Did you know a word can be defined without really defining it? I am going to show you how overreliance on word study while ignoring the meat of the subject, leads to speculation and guesswork.
The Greek word “apostolos” means “one sent forth”. From that brief study we could say that an apostle is a sent one, but still not have a clue to how an apostle functions in the church.
Obtaining definitions from word study rather than the grace of God leads minister to try to define an apostle as a term rather than a calling and to read into that calling a meaning that fulfills their own ministry vision, which becomes a justification to continue to resist God’s plan.

When did the second apostolic age begin? How was the government of God formed? What did God accomplish? What changed?
The Second Apostolic Age began in 1951 when I first heard God’s call. It was in the heart of the Father to restore apostles to the church long before the church realized they had strayed far from God’s purpose.
The cry that was coming forth from the hearts of ministers and believes for God’s government and order was something they did not understand themselves and could not fulfill themselves. Nevertheless, burdened with the vision, many ran in vain to fulfill it, only to succeed in duplicating the existing problems and furthering the suffering of the church.
The seed of revelation was planted in 1951 in preparation of God’s work and in 1977 I again heard the voice of God calling me into the office of apostle. This testimony of calling is confirmed by visions, dreams, and angelic visitations. The video series “Testimony of an Apostle” is available. CLICK HERE
Most importantly, God made known that His purpose to restore the office of apostle to the church is to restore the church to the original foundation of truth – the covenant of Jesus Christ from which the church strayed.
God accomplished that through the measure of grace He granted to me to understand the mysteries of Christ. He made me to understand the foundation of truth in the 12 elements of the gospel and how He framed the knowledge of Christ to reflect and express Him. From this foundation the church was rebuilt in the image and likeness of Christ.
When God restored the church to the original foundation of truth, everything changed. Believers around the world began to transition into the new covenant and apostolic stewardship of truth. Transitions were experienced on all fronts. The priesthood of the flesh gave way to the priesthood of Jesus Christ, personal prophecy gave way to priesthood prophecy, the aspiration of man gave way to the grace of God, and the logic of man gave way to the reason of grace. Prayer and worship changed.
-- As believers were no longer searching for holiness, the false journey towards holiness ended.
-- Believers were no longer defining the gifts of God by the record of their own souls – that spiritual exploitation ended.
-- As they folded their wilderness tents to come into the house of God and one frame of truth, their convictions were no longer inspired by Satan’s trio – that spiritual exploitation ended.
The New Apostolic Government is Formed. God had radical changes in mind for the church. After calling me to the office of apostle, God spent the next 30 years preparing me to lead the church through transition. The changes began to be implemented in 1999 when God directed me to found Second 8th Week Ministries for the purpose of spreading the embers of truth from myself to other apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. The government of God was reborn.
The Church is Reborn. From the newly formed apostolic government the changes spread around the world. As believers came out of the false religious system to again embrace one doctrine of Christ, the church was reborn.
